Your Past
While career paths are rarely linear, I think you would agree that each piece of your past experience plays a critical role in who you are today.
So the key is thinking about how all of those pieces fit together.
Think about all the skills you’ve built over a variety of different jobs. Think about how you might be able to string those elements together to build a coherent story that shows your unique value to employers – that shows what you can bring to the table.
Your Present
I’m guessing you’re here because you feel stuck. Maybe the pandemic threw a wrench into your career plans. Maybe you’ve outgrown your current role and so you’re bored just doing the same thing year after year. Maybe you look at your bills each month and think, “man, do I need to find something that pays better”. In any of these cases, it’s time to move forward.
… because
YOU DESERVE BETTER.
Your Future
And this is where people REALLY get stuck.
“A future? But I don’t have the skills to ‘get to where I want to go’.”
This is where I can help most.
Many people don’t even recognize their skill set, their unique value, and how that can be put together to land their dream job. Often, we’re told about ‘transferrable’ skills but don’t really know what that means beyond thinking soft skills like “communication skills” or “work ethic”.
But, oh, there’s so much more!
Think about it this way: A Data Analyst typically doesn’t realize the variety of different applications there are. For example, being able to collect data, organize data, analyze data, and report on data brings with it a whole variety of technical and non-technical skills that can be applied to a variety of different business needs.
Similarly, someone who ‘only’ builds a few presentations per year (and I say ‘only’ rather tongue-in-cheek’) has the underlying skills to organize information in many different contexts. Think about it.. you probably had to uncover information from a variety of internal and external sources, synthesize that information using some sort of organizer like Excel, put together a visual chart, and add that to some presentation tool like PowerPoint alongside some poignant bullets or diagrams showing relationships. Inside this simple example are a variety of highly transferrable skills to repackage and ‘pitch’ to employers during interviews.
Again, more to come. But for now, just ask yourself:
What’s my Career Story, and how can Mark help me with crafting it?
… because
YOU are amazing!
You HAVE great skills!
And it’s time that employers start seeing that.
Sincerely,
Mark
